Better patient care  and direct access to  the patients’ records for the medical staff: these are the key benefits of rolling out bedside terminals, according to Professor Patrick de Coster, Chief Physician at Mont-Godinne, and Luc de Beusscher, the hospital’s CIO.

“Bedside terminals”, says Luc de Beusscher, CIO at Mont-Godinne Hospital, “are an essential part of patient care and give it a more human dimension.” As Professor Patrick de Coster, Chief Physician at Mont-Godinne, explains, the terminals address all the hospital’s needs: “A terminal that was both user-friendly and easily accessible for the patient, but which also gives the doctors and nurses access to patient information. Doctors can have secure access to the patients’ notes and X-rays. They can also explain to the patient the examination or procedure they are going to undergo and thus reassure them.”

In addition to the advantages in terms of optimised care, the patients can also benefit from a range of other services via a single interface, including television, internet, telephone and entertainment applications (games, audio books, etc).

An innovative project

These 500 bedside terminals set up in the patients’ rooms at the hospital is an eloquent example of how ICT can contribute to providing quality healthcare. It also shows Econocom’s commitment to providing solutions for the e-health sector: it has already set up two dedicated business units for the healthcare sector, in Belgium and France.
